Welcome to the Archive of the Jesuit Fathers

At the Jesuit Monastery of Athens, three historical archives of the Society of Jesus in Greece have been gathered: that of Syros (ATIS), that of Tinos (ATIT), and that of Athens. Gradually, these archives were enriched with material from other monasteries, such as those of Naxos, Santorini, etc., as well as from institutional bodies or individuals, including the Ursuline Monastery, the founder of the Syros Monastery Nikolaos Marangos, Bishop Fonton, and the historian Antonios Sigalas.
Among the various Jesuit Archives currently held at the Monastery of Athens, the Archive of the Society of Jesus of Syros (ATIS) stands out. This is because, over five distinct periods of the monastery’s existence on the island, Jesuit fathers with a particular interest in history devoted part of their valuable time to collecting and recording material—documents, manuscripts, publications, photographs, and audiovisual records.
